MACU is a trade association for credit unions. The MACU Association group was founded in 1960 and consists of member credit unions from all around the state of Michigan. Our purpose is to provide credit unions with opportunities for growth and development and to provide assistance and support for the strength and unity of the Michigan credit union movement.

What are the duties of a trade association?

  • To provide information
  • To provide services
  • To provide education
  • To provide training
  • To provide legal advice
  • To provide guidance

“Promoting the philosophy and well being of credit unions through interaction, education, information and legislative advocacy.”

Webster’s New World Dictionary defines guidance as “to point out the way.” The MACU Association Group does just that. We guide you to ways to solve your problems – not dictate the actions you must take. We point out the pluses and the minuses of your programs, services and solutions. In the end, you decide the course of action your credit union must take. Guidance is a must that every trade association should provide.

MACU offers the services credit unions need to meet the competitive economic environment of today. These include:

  • Representation in legislative matters
  • Updates on laws and regulations
  • Timely educational seminars
  • Legal advice, and
  • Assistance with special needs.

MACU prides itself on its strong member loyalty. This loyalty has been earned through the Association’s timely response to the desires of its’ member credit unions and by supplying the services and programs necessary to meet the challenges of the times. Because credit unions can have problems, MACU’s staff and other member credit unions are ready to provide assistance. Over the years, we have spent many man-hours helping individual credit unions with their special needs.

MACU provides an experienced and highly skilled full time staff that keeps members abreast of the changing rules, regulations and laws. Plus, we answer the everyday how-to-do-it questions. Questions of a general nature may be answered via telephone, written response, email or a visit from a staff member to the credit union office.

It is MACU’s pledge to promote the credit union philosophy and provide unity of effort for those credit unions that practice this philosophy. We are committed to providing guidance geared towards each credit union’s specific needs. We never give a blanket answer, we give individualized support.
